Thanks for the invitation!1

I just noticed that my profile wasn't set up right (whoops!) Nov 20 2008

My family and I live in Carmel, Indiana. It's a really nice place to live. That might be because you get the benefits of being by the big city of Indy, yet we can be in the country in 5 minutes and all calm of the wonderful Hooiser country life.

We are thrilled at the response to the idea of hosting a National John George Overmyer Family Reunion here in the Hooiser state! I continue to be surprised by the snowball effect this idea has taken on.

The only person I've ever met that had the name Overmyer (actually in their name) was my late grandmother, Helen Overmyer Mason. So I'm looking forward to being with cousins that might have the name Overmyer. I've tracked grandma Helen's family and she has about 150 descendants. She had no male siblings so all of us go by a bunch of names.

Great-grandfather Jesse Lorenzo Overmyer moved to the Western part of the United States around 1918. He settled in Northern Utah. On July 23, 1923 Jesse Overmyer received a copy of the Overmyer History and Genealogy (1905 edition) from his cousin A. W. Overmyer. a congressman from Fremont, Ohio. My great-grandfather treasured and cherished this book the rest of his life. Recently, I inherited it from my mom Mae Mason Hansen. That single event began is what really brought about the idea to organize a modern reunion. If you come to the reunion in July 2009. . .I'll tell you the rest of the story. Let's communicate in 2008!

Sincerely,

Bruce S. Hansen, National Overmyer Reunion 2009

My Father’s mother (Lavina Overmyer) was in the Overmyer 1905 book. My father always felt as much of an Overmyer as a Gahn. His name was Allen Overmyer Gahn, being named after his grandfather Allen. Lavina’s grandparents were both descendents of JG—with her Grandfather Solomon being a descendent of JG’s son John Michael and Lavina’s Grand Mother, Mary being a descendent of JG’s son Phillip. (Mary and Solomon were married and had Allen William Overmyer. (My Great Grandfather and Lavin’s father.) They all settled in the Lindsay/Fremont/ Sandusky area in Ohio.

I am really sorry but I do not believe that I will be able to attend the reunion, since we have prior commitments here in Arizona. We did not make plans since I just found out about the reunion two weeks ago. This is sad since this is a once in a lifetime chance to connect with other family members of the Overmyer’s. It will be difficult for us to come back at this time.
We just got back from France and Germany, where we did visit Baden and the area from where John George came from. We were visiting our son who is living in Paris, and our trip to Germany was on short notice. While there I was not able to find Blankenloch, but on my return to the states I did more research and I noticed that they have combined the town of Blankenlock, Buchig and Stutensee and reference on the map to Stutensee, since they all are very small communities. We were only about 20 miles from there on our trip; it is too bad we did not have more time to plan before we went.

Thanks again for all your information and I will keep in touch through the web page. I hope everybody has a great time as I wish I could be there.

Sincerely,

Bill Gahn--
