Reunion Events

Hello All,
The group is getting larger with some names that I am familiar with. This is a good start towards a worthwhile cause. Perhaps, since this effort has begun on Mr. Hansen’s desk, I am guessing that he has some basic ideas regarding how to put the whole of the project together. Bruce, I think that makes this your cue to lay down your thinking and how you want, or expect the group to respond. (I’m not trying to push you into a corner, just looking for a place to start. As you remember, I have a big concern with the allotted time to assemble this project.)

"Ye Olde' Bushwacker, Nay, I won't have ye take out thy tongue and give thyself twenty lashings". . . Actually, you have a good question about laying down the plan. Tentatively, we have reserved an appropriate "place" so the Overmyer family can gather. We are finishing those arrangements and the financial commitments. Securing a suitable location was a big factor in moving forward. We are growing a core reunion planning committee to ensure the success of the project. As a committee we are planning to meet in a central location (and through the use of conference call resources) to sure up the focus and manage needs, interests, feedback and resources. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. I was wondering if there was an S.A.R. Chapter in the area of the reunion. I think a sunrise service might be better served with a 10:00 AM service at a local Pioneer Cemetery. Such a service might be hosted by a SAR color guard and a few words by the local Chapter’s Chaplin? I have a pretty good speech already put together that I used at John Peter’s ceremony that would only need a bit of tailoring and as I remember, Cousin Larry has a whole bag full of wonderful words that he used at Peter Witmer’s Grave Marking. If we could somehow incorporate a musket salute into the program or even a cannon, it would be an exceptional undertaking. I am sure nobody present would forget the program by the time they returned home. Just a bit of food-for-thought.

BTW…I would be honored to be permitted to dress in the regalia of the period, for such an event.

A musket and cannon salute would be impressive. We'll put that on the list of ideas and check to see if there is a local SAR chapter. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I have posted a picture of my Son Brian, Myself and my Brother Ron, as we fired a Musket Salute at the grave marking ceremony for John Peter Obermeier. (Sept. 10, 2006.) A friend, "Ohio Rusty" commands the squad of JGO's descendants. Son Brian is a member of this effort and will most likely attend the reunion. Brother Ron is very interested in attending. If, for some reason, he cannot, I will bring a muzzle loading rifle for someone to fill the needed space. In-as-much as Ohio Rusty won't be in attendance, perhaps a uniformed Officer of the period, could command the squad? Also, Should there be any SAR members with period garb, or reenactors of the Rev. War Period in this group, there most certainly will be space in the firing-line. (See the Photo Gallery button, at the top of this page.) 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

The Fulton County Historical Society Museum and Living History Village is in Rochester, Indiana (1-1/2 hour North of Indianapolis). The site is situated next to US 31. It is a great location for all the events we are hoping to put together. I spoke with the director this morning and we firmed up the reservation for July 24-26, 2009 (deposit, etc). The location is easy to get to. 4  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

Could you post the date and place of the event again. I cannot find it. Put it on one of the pages that describes the reunion.

Bonnie, If you look on the website page "Reunion Agenda" it lists the days of the reunion and the possible events. Look for (Friday) July 24, (Saturday) July 25, (Sunday) July 26, 2009. The location is Rochester, Indiana. We'll make a seperate page announcing it again in a different format this weekend. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I also posted this message in an e-mail post...it would be great to see if American Idol, Amanda Overmyer, and her band could attend and play as one of the events. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Yes, it would be incredible if Amanda Overmyer could be part of the national reunion experience. I wish I knew her branch of the Overmyer family, and had the type of personal connection most likely needed to get a performance committment. It would be great to have her and her band in a concert that benefited the community, something. . . like raising donations for a scholarship in music for the Rochester High School. It would be something short of a miracle to make it happen. . .right? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

well...I just sent her an e-mail so we will see if she responds. I met her and her family when she played at the Whisky-A-Go-Go out here in Hollywood earlier this year. If she decides to play, it would be quite a crowd draw I bet. Hopefully she responds...we will see. Do you find this valuable?

rfoiii. . . I did the same thing on Sept. 21 after you made the suggestion. I sent a request through her event cordinator. She played at a number of events held here in Indiana. I live in Carmel and she and her band played in the city next to me, Zionsville. So it does appear she will do middle America kind of stuff. Do you find this valuable?
